Samsung co-CEO Han Jong-Hee (63) passed away Tuesday from cardiac arrest. He led consumer electronics/mobile since 2022 after 37 years with Samsung.
Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest, a spokesperson for the South Korean tech giant confirmed. Han was 63 years old.
Born in 1962, Han dedicated over 37 years to Samsung, playing a pivotal role in shaping its global success. He took charge of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses in 2022 and was named vice chairman and co-CEO the same year. His leadership helped solidify Samsung’s dominance in the TV and home appliances market, even amid economic challenges. His co-CEO, Jun Young-Hyun, continues to lead Samsung’s semiconductor division.
In an internal memo seen by CNN, Samsung honored Han’s contributions, emphasizing his commitment to driving innovation and growth despite a challenging business landscape.
"Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time," the company stated.
No official announcement has been made regarding his successor, according to a Samsung spokesperson.
Just a week before his passing, Han chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, where he addressed concerns over the company’s stock performance and warned of a challenging 2025 due to global economic uncertainties.
He reaffirmed Samsung’s commitment to strategic mergers and acquisitions (M&A), stating:
“There are some difficulties in semiconductor M&As due to regulatory issues and national interests, but we are determined to produce tangible results this year.”
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before overseeing Samsung’s electronics and mobile division, he played a key role in developing the company’s display business.
His passing marks the loss of a visionary leader who helped shape Samsung Electronics into the global powerhouse it is today.
